Breeding goals
The overall aim with the breeding programme is year round availability of high quality eyed ova and offspring with high potential for important production and welfare parameters.
Variation in production systems and consumers demand world wide has led to the differentiation of AquaSearch ova products into 5 distinct lines of fish. Each line has its own characteristics and special attention is addressed to continuing improvements and developments of the required performances. In this regard, feedback from the industry is very important and plays a central role in adjusting the breeding goals when different requirements appear.
The breeding nucleus in AquaSearch ova has been selected for several generations resulting in significant increases in performances for important production parameters. As an example, growth rate of AquaSearch breeding nucleus offspring, measured by Thermal-Unit Growth Coefficient (TGC), is superior to many strains of rainbow trout.
In our efforts to continuously improve and develop the products in Aquasearch ova, the breeding programme and genetics are key factors in the production of eyed eggs.
The breeding programmes in Aquasearch ova include 5 different product lines with specific breeding goals allocated to each type. This means that AquaSearch ova can offer superior quality eggs for fresh water as well as for marine water production according to customers demand.
